Meet Matt
I’m Matt Jacobson, and I am the product of some unique exposure. I grew up in a family business, watching my father build a global company and navigate some of the world’s most complicated challenges. I watched him pick up fly fishing when I was four years old, and thus began my journey of learning business with a fly rod in hand. I started tying flies before I could read. At 13 years of age, my father asked me if I could take a client of his fishing – just me and an automotive executive from China. That experience marked the beginning of 20 years of my real business education, with oars in my hands. I began taking small business owners and CEOs of major firms into remote places, detaching them from the stress of their careers.
I have spent the last decade in the corporate world as an industrial sales rep, developing national account strategies, leading ERP implementations, restructuring after a private equity acquisition, receiving a Masters of Management degree and continuing my education through global outdoor pursuits and connecting people to nature. I am a husband, a father of two daughters and wrangler of two bird dogs, I understand the challenge of balancing a corporate career and creating a healthy lifestyle for my family. I grew up in that balance, provided it for my own family and strive to make it happen for others.
Fly fishing and the outdoors have done more for my career than any of my degrees. The challenges of solving problems in the natural world have been the backbone of my ability to create strategies in business. A lifestyle in the outdoors has been vital to my professional and personal growth. There are people and experiences that I would never have access to or mentorship from, if not for my self-discipline in getting away from the office. We all benefit from an effective method to gain distance from the expanding virtual world. My passion is using my experience in business and my experience in the outdoors to help busy executives and their families live healthy and meaningful lifestyles.
What it’s About
A growing virtual world has provided us with increased flexibility; however, it presents challenges for balancing work and life schedules. By working remotely, we are more accessible than ever before. It has become increasingly difficult to escape workplace noise and to find a clear, focused mindset. A lifestyle connected to the outdoors provides tools to detach from work and to engage in stimulating and recharging activities. The world of a high performing executive is built on solving complex problems. But, when it’s time to step away, where do you go? What do you do? Outdoor experiences will provide solitude, fresh problem-solving challenges, and excitement.
Lifelong Payoff
You can continue to progress as you age and spend more time in the woods and on the water.
Deep Connection
With the natural world, with yourself, and with those you bring along; clients, colleagues, children and grandchildren.
Healthy Detachment
No screens, No conference calls. Just water, woods and the wild.
Strategic Challenge
Endless variables, gear, conditions, reading nature, technique; you are constantly learning and adapting.
I use my skills as a guide and background in business to coach clients how to detach from the stresses of work. With a focus on strategy I help you learn the “why” behind the decisions we are making, not just telling you what do.
This approach fosters autonomy and the skills to get out there on your own and those you want to share it with. Becoming comfortable in these environments is key to integrating it into your lifestyle, allowing you the ability to seek solitude and shared experiences on your schedule.
